Violence Tears through a Family
One evening, the employee’s spouse attended a social gathering, and he became a victim of a violent shooting. He was shot five times. The injuries he sustained were life-threatening, and his prognosis was poor. He would eventually undergo complete intestinal reconstruction followed by months of wound care. His injuries will make it impossible to return to work for at least a year.[/text_block]
Due to this tragic and unexpected catastrophic event, this family’s household income was immediately decreased significantly. The employee did not know how she would meet her family’s financial responsibilities without her husband’s income. And, not only had the family’s income been decreased, but the spouse’s medical needs not covered by insurance were an added unexpected expense. To compound matters, the employee’s income was also affected because she had to take time off from work to care for her spouse.
The employee reports that her spouse is on the lengthy road to recovery, but she is very grateful to Hug Fund donors who helped her family during this tragedy. She was excited to share her story with her fellow employees and encourages others to donate to the Hug Fund, so that funds will be available to provide assistance when there is an unexpected, catastrophic event in someone else’s life.[/text_block]
