Loss of a Father and Son

“Loss of a Father and Son”

[text_block style=”style_1.png” align=”left”]In December, the son of a Heartland employee died unexpectedly, leaving his infant son without a parent capable of taking care of him. The employee grieving for her only son, instantly became “mom” to her baby grandson. During her bereavement, the employee then fractured her wrist. “Our life is just a mess right now, we don’t know where to turn,” remarked the grieving employee. “The only bright spot is this precious baby boy.”[/text_block]

[text_block style=”style_1.png” align=”left”]The employee’s income as a Nurse aide was suddenly the sole support for her family. She had not only incurred the expense of a funeral for her son, but she had taken on the responsibility of raising a child. She had little time to grieve, as she needed to navigate the social service system in order to make plans for child care.

The employee was very overwhelmed, but remembered her company had a program called, the Hug Fund. She hesitantly reached out, as she commented that she “was not the kind of person who would ask for help…I look to help others.” Asking for help was not easy, but she was struggling.

Thanks to the support of Hug Fund donors, funds were granted to this family! The employee and her spouse were extremely grateful for the generosity of fellow HCR ManorCare employees who supported the Hug Fund.[/text_block]
